Mass. women earned 76% of what men did
Women who were full-time wage and salary workers in Massachusetts had median weekly earnings of $762, or 76 percent of the $1,003 median for their male counterparts in 2008, according to the New England office of the US Bureau of Labor Statistics.
That was below the peak ratio of womenís to menís earnings in Massachusetts, 79.3, which occurred in 2004, the bureau said in a press release; nationwide, women earned $638, or 80 percent of the $798 median for men in 2008.
The women's-to-men's earnings ratio in Massachusetts has been below the national numbers since 2003, the bureau said.
