American Well Inc. said that two BlueCross BlueShield health plans serving parts of New York state will deploy American Well’s online care platform to eligible members and employers beginning this summer.

As a result, a doctor can conduct a "virtual house call" with a person via video, text, or talk, a spokesman for Boston-based American Well said. The health plans deploying the American Well online platform are BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York and BlueShield of Northeastern New York, two divisions of HealthNow New York Inc.

In a statement, Ido Schoenberg, the medical doctor who is the chief executive of American Well referenced the two BlueCross BlueShield health plans by their initials.

“By bringing Online Care to the state of New York, BCBSWNY/BSNENY becomes the first health plan to make this service available in the Northeast,” Schoenberg said.
