Baskin-Robbins gears up for 31 Cent Scoop Night
Ice cream buffs are hereby put on notice: Baskin-Robbins has scheduled its annual 31 Cent Scoop Night for tomorrow.
Between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m., customers can choose any flavor of ice cream and pay 31 cents for a scoop at participating Baskin-Robbins locations nationwide, said a Canton-based chain with nearly 2,700 US locations.
What's the significance of 31? According to company history, founders Burt Baskin and Irv Robbins originally developed 31 flavors to represent a flavor for each day of the month.
In the chain's 65-year history, more than a thousand recipes have been developed, a chain spokeswoman said. Stores have a permanent menu of standbys such as vanilla and chocolate, which is augmented by a rotation of more exotic flavors on a monthly basis.
Cotton Candy is the chain's April Flavor of the Month, but on 31 Cent Scoop Night, customers can also opt for such choices as Pralines n' Cream, Mint Chocolate Chip, and Jamoca Almond Fudge, said Baskin-Robbins, which is a sister chain of Dunkin' Donuts.
