Buy a Big Mac and get a second for a penny
McDonald's restaurants in eastern New England will offer special deals tomorrow on Big Macs and Egg Muffins as part of Tax Relief Day.
At roughly 300 participating McDonald's locations in Eastern Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island, customers can buy an Egg McMuffin or a Big Mac at regular price, then get another of the same sandwich for a penny, a local McDonald's franchisee group said.
The promotion is scheduled to begin at 5 a.m. tomorrow and go until midnight, the group said.
"A delicious Egg McMuffin made from a freshly cracked egg, or a beefy, cheesy Big Mac can help take the stress out of the most taxing day of the year," the McDonald's group said in a press release. (At right is a file photo the Big Mac.)
After the heavy rain storms of mid March, the Internal Revenue Service extended the tax filing deadline from April 15 until May 11 for the many Massachusetts residents who live in counties that were declared to be federal disaster areas. Massachusetts granted a similar extension on state tax returns for people and business in affected areas. (Please click here to get additional details about the extensions.)
A spokeswoman for the local McDonald's group said that tomorrow's tax relief promotion was planned months in advance and the Big Mac date could not be moved.
So, for what it's worth, some locals can chow down on a one-penny Big Mac tomorrow and still have a couple of weeks to file their taxes.
