Office Depot is teaming up with Gazelle.com of Boston on an Earth Day promotion that will give instant store rewards and discounts to consumers who turn in certain types of used printers, shredders, cameras, or notebook computers at Office Depot stores.

For example, a consumer could save an extra $25 instantly on the purchase of a shredder regularly priced $129.99 and above at Office Depot when that consumer trades in a shredder through April 24, Office Depot said in a press release.

An old printer can be turned in for a $50 discount on a new printer regularly priced at $199.99 or more. The discounts can only be used to make an Office Depot purchase that day.

On April 11, the program expands to include functioning digital cameras and notebook computers.

From April 11 through April 24, consumers can an extra $30 discount on an Office Depot purchase of a camera regularly priced $149.99 and above when they trade in a functioning 5MP camera or higher with its own rechargeable battery, said Office Depot, which has two stores in the Greater Boston area, one in Framingham, the other in Woburn.

Between April 11 through April 24, consumers can save an extra $75 on the purchase of a notebook computer at Office Depot when they trade in a Microsoft XP notebook computer or a newer model that is functioning and that has the power cord, Office Depot said.

On both cameras and notebooks, the same day rule applies.

Gazelle said it will either recycle or sell the used products that Office Depot collects. Gazelle added that it will "data-wipe" notebooks before recycling or reselling them.

Gazelle.com bills itself as a "reCommerce company" that provides "a practical, responsible, rewarding way for consumers to get value for used electronics." To read a Globe story that mentions Gazelle and how it works, please click here.
