When it comes to opening-day box office draws, Red Sox fans might be forgiven for thinking their team is tops. But according to a new survey, the Red Sox are no Angels - or Yankees or Twins either.

jeter401.jpgA new survey by StubHub, the ticket marketplace owned by eBay Inc., concludes that the Angels versus the Yankees in New York is the shaping up to be the most expensive opening day ticket, with an average ticket price of $230. Amazingly, it could cost a Minnesota fan more to see the Twins opener against the Red Sox than it could to see the Yankees play the Sox at  Fenway on Sunday, according to StubHub.

The average ticket price for the Twins opener is $223, StubHub said; the average for the Fenway opener is $208. The Twins, StubHub points out, are christening a brand new ballpark for their home opener.

"Despite the fact that the season opens with a number of heralded rivalries, secondary ticket prices for the combined 30 Opening Days have decreased over 20 percent according to StubHub, the world's largest ticket marketplace and the Official Fan to Fan Ticket Marketplace of MLB.com," the company said in a press release. "The average resale price of tickets sold through StubHub for Opening Day games across the league is currently $101 per ticket, down $26 from 2009's average of $127."

While prices are down, transaction volume is up, StubHub said. According to the company, more fans have grown comfortable with online marketplaces such as StubHub to sell tickets that they can't use, and that comfort level translates into a greater supply of available tickets.

As for the team that commands the greatest demand in terms of dollar volume, it's the Yankees, StubHub said.
