Boston Scientific Corp., the Natick-based medical device maker, said that it has received regulatory approval to market its Taxus Element Paclitaxel-Eluting Coronary Stent System in the European Union.
In a press release, Boston Scientific described the Taxus Element Paclitaxel-Eluting Coronary Stent System as its "third-generation drug-eluting stent (DES) technology."
Stents are thin metal tubes used to keep open arteries that have been cleared during medical procedures. Stents are among Boston Scientific's most important products.
The company said it expects US Food and Drug Administration approval for the Taxus Element Stent System in mid 2011.
