The Commonwealth has entered into a memorandum of understanding with the Beijing Municipal People's Government, the Massachusetts Office of International Trade and Investment said today.

The memorandum focuses on information exchange, foreign direct investment, and innovation referrals, the office said.

"China is a very important market for the innovative technologies and entrepreneurial spirit that is the lifeblood of the Massachusetts economy," Ted Carr, executive director of the Massachusetts Office of International Trade and Investment, said in a statement.

According to the office, the agreement "stems largely from Governor Deval Patrick's trade mission to China in 2007."
