Global shipments of personal computers posted year-on-year growth of 27.1 percent in the first quarter of 2010, according to IDC, a market intelligence firm headquartered in Framingham.
In a press release, IDC added that it is now renewing its projection for strong 2010 growth of 19.8 percent based on a "measured, albeit sometimes bumpy economic recovery."
During a tough 2009, low-price netbooks drove much of the sales volume. But as the economy improves this year, IDC says it is seeing "a small rebound in higher priced units.
"Going forward, IDC expects PC market revenue in 2010 to surpass that of the previous revenue peak set in 2008 as more purchases shift to higher margin" units, IDC said.
