Report: Holyoke computing center decision near
The location of a Holyoke, Mass. high performance computing center backed by a consortium of Massachusetts educational institutions and high tech companies will be decided in July, the Springfield Republican reported yesterday.
The backers of the project include the state of Massachusetts, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the University of Massachusetts, Boston University and Northeastern University. EMC Corp. and Cisco Systems Inc. are also partners.
The city of Holyoke was chosen for the site because of its access to inexpensive water-powered electricity. But project officials have yet to choose between two different locations in the city.
Tom Testa, assistant vice president with Boston University, told the Republican on Tuesday that the decision will come in July.
