dried cranberries.JPG Ocean Spray Cranberries Inc. said it is gearing up to launch new dried fruit lineup, including Jumbo Dried Cranberries, Dried Cherries, and Dried Blueberries.

Plans call for the new products to hit supermarket shelves next month in four- and five-ounce packages; the packages have a suggested retail price of $3.99 to $4.99, Ocean Spray said.

A cooperative of cranberry and grapefruit growers with headquarters that sits on the Lakeville-Middleborough line, Ocean Spray is known for such products as cranberry beverage cocktails and Craisins. Craisins are dried cranberries meant to be added to muffins or salads. Jumbo Dried Cranberries, in contrast, are meant to be a "stand-alone snack," Ocean Spray said.

"We've taken all the goodness of the whole cranberry, blueberry and cherry and created a healthy, on-the-go snack for today's busy family," Larry Martin, vice president of marketing at Ocean Spray, said in a statement. "Our new Ocean Spray Dried Fruit is a great way to add more fruit to your diet whether you're looking for a quick energy boost or a healthy snack alternative at home, school or on the road."

A recent Globe story noted that a massive oversupply of cranberries is forcing marketers to look for new ways to sell the fruit overseas and come up with new products. To read that story, please click here.
