Verizon service partly restored in the Back Bay
Verizon Communications Inc. said that telephone and Internet service has been restored to many of its customers in the Back Bay that had lost service after a construction accident.
Last night, a cable serving many Verizon customers in the Back Bay and on the Boston University campus was cut by contractors doing restoration work at St. Cecilia Church on Belvidere Street, a Verizon spokesman said.
Many, but not all, of Verizon's Back Bay residential and business customers lost service, the spokesman said.
As of 3:45 p.m., Verizon said its service had been restored to BU and to about half of its Back Bay customers affected by the disruption, the Verizon spokesman said.
The spokesman could not quantify how many customers had lost service, but he said he was hopeful that customers still without service would have service restored within the next few hours.
