It could be a good holiday for iPhone accessories
September saw twice as many shipments of iPhone-related products as September 2009, and that means those products could be big holiday sellers, according to Panjiva.
A small firm with offices in New York and Cambridge, Panjiva uses technologies developed by an MIT computer scientist to analyze goods being shipped to the United States.
"Shipments of iPhone-related products surge about four months after Apple ships a new iPhone – the time it takes rev up a global supply chain and get goods to the US market," Panjiva reports.
Based on recent shipments, Panjiva said, "We can safely count on seeing a lot of iPhone-related stuff available for stocking-stuffing this holiday season."
An analysis of shipping trends last year had Panjiva predicting that Snuggies, a new kind of blanket extolled by cable TV commercials, and the Zhu Zhu Pet, an interactive hamster toy, could be among 2009's big holiday hits, based on what retailers were ordering in the months leading up to December.
The graph with this post charts shipments of iPhone-related products. It was included with Panjiva's press release.
