Devise new hockey rule, win ride on B’s Zamboni
"Don't date within the division." "Never tuck in your Bruins jersey." As local hockey fans know, these are among the "Bruins Hockey Rules" espoused in a team marketing campaign of the same name.
The campaign launched just before the Stanley Cup Play-offs in the spring of 2008. And now with the new National Hockey League season just underway, the Boston Bruins are appealing to their fan base to come up with the idea for the next Bruins Hockey Rule.
On a special website, www.bruinshockeyrules.com/Home.aspx, the Bruins have posted the video shown above. Fans are asked to write the next hockey rule --- one that fits the video.
The competition runs through mid-November. The winner will receive free tickets to a game, a ride on the Zamboni, a meet-and-greet with the Bruins mascot, and the pleasure of seeing the video turned into a TV commercial that highlights the winner's rule, the team said. Plans call for the spot to air on NESN and on the TD Garden Jumbotron during Bruins home games.
As of yesterday, about 1,650 entries had been submitted, the team said.
"The Bruins Hockey Rules campaign was originally created as a tribute to the passion of B's fans," Bruins marketing director Chris Dipierro said in a statement. "We always felt like the next logical step was to give the fans the opportunity to create their own rules."
"The Bruins Hockey Rules" campaign was developed by the Bruins in collaboration with the team's ad agency, Mullen of Boston.
