Comcast Internet service is up and running
Comcast said its Internet service is up and running this morning after an outage disrupted Internet service in the Greater Boston and the Washington, D.C., area for several hours yesterday.
Having Internet service would be a good thing because today is Cyber Monday, one of the busiest online shopping days of the year.
As for the outage, company engineers worked on a server issue that caused the problem, and they believe that "last night's issue was resolved," said a Comcast spokesman, who added that a "root cause analysis" of the problem is now underway.
The spokesman declined to say how many customers were affected or how many Internet subscribers Comcast has in the Boston area.
A "small subset" of Comcast Internet customers could still be experiencing issues this morning because of modems that need to be reset, the spokesman said.
Unplug the modem from the power source, then plug it in again. Once the modems reset, service should be restored, the spokesman said.
Comcast said its telephone and cable TV services were unaffected by the outage.
