Bank of America, a national bank with a major presence in Massachusetts, said it has launched the “Gift for Opportunity” fund, a nationwide program that will support Feeding America, a hunger-relief organization, and Boys & Girls Clubs of America, whose network of 4,000 clubs provides a safe place for children to obtain healthy meals.

The program looks to encourage the combined charitable giving of customers and associates by providing a corporate match.

In a press release, North Carolina-based Bank of America said: "In addition to its own contribution, the Bank of America Charitable Foundation will match every donation made to the 'Gift for Opportunity' fund through Jan. 15, 2011 up to a maximum additional contribution of $1 million, extending the impact of customer and associate donations made to help address the growing demand for food assistance in both large and small communities during a critical time of the year."

According to the bank, the program has the potential to contribute up to $3 million to Feeding America and the Boys & Girls Clubs.
