Mass. again tops state tech & science index
Massachusetts once again topped the State Tech and Science Index developed by the Milken Institute, though the Bay State's current index score of 82.61 is lower than its 84.9 score in the institute's inaugural index in 2002.
The index seeks to gauge a state’s research-and-development capabilities, and such measures as industrial, academic, and federal R&D funding, small business innovation research awards, and human capital capacity are factored into the rankings, said the Milken Institute, a California-based nonprofit economic think tank.
"Massachusetts is a breeding ground of research with world-renowned universities and cutting-edge firms fueling its economy," the institute said.
The Milken Institute's top 10 list this year is:
7. New Hampshire
