EMC Corp., the Hopkinton data storage giant, said it has acquired NetWitness Corp., a privately-held Virginia company that provides network security analysis solutions.

The purchase price is not being disclosed. But in a press release, EMC said that the transaction is not expected to have a material impact to revenue or earnings per share for the full 2011 fiscal year.

According to the release, NetWitness's technologies enable security teams to detect and remediate advanced threats while automating the incident investigation process.  NetWitness will now operate as a part of RSA, EMC's security division, EMC said.
