Thermo Fisher Scientific buys UK lab products firm
Laboratory sciences supplier Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. of Waltham said that it has acquired Sterilin Ltd., a British company that provides single-use plastic products serving the microbiology, life sciences, and clinical markets.
Thermo Fisher Scientific's press release did not include financial details of the transaction but the company said that Sterilin has about 270 employees and 2010 full year revenue of $35 million. Last year, Thermo Fisher Scientific had revenues of nearly $11 billion.
In a statement, Thermo Fisher Scientific president and chief executive Marc N. Casper said: "This acquisition broadens the range of innovative specialty laboratory products we can offer our customers. It is also consistent with our strategy to leverage our global sales and support organization to give our customers across Europe, Asia-Pacific and North America greater access to these products."
