New PerkinElmer innovation center in Hopkinton will create 100 jobs
PerkinElmer Inc., a Waltham company that provides equipment for genetic screening and drug research, disclosed plans Thursday to establish a Personalized Health Innovation Center of Excellence at an existing facility in Hopkinton.
The company, which reported $1.9 billion in 2011 revenue, projects that the center will create about 100 new jobs in Massachusetts over the next 18 months.
Currently, PerkinElmer has a worldwide head count of more than 7,000 employees, including over 800 in Massachusetts. The company has about 250 employees at its Hopkinton life sciences facility. PerkinElmer expects the innovation center to be fully operational by late 2012.
At the center, PerkinElmer will focus on helping its customers to devise new disease treatments as well as new methods for early detection and disease prevention, the company said in a press release.
