T.J. Maxx is coming to CambridgeSide Galleria
A new T.J. Maxx will occupy all 23,000 square feet of the space that Borders left vacant; the plan is for the T.J. Maxx store to open before the winter holiday season, possibly in October, CambridgeSide Galleria said.
According to its website, CambridgeSide Galleria is home to more than 120 retailers, and big stores include Best Buy, Sears, Macy’s, and Apple.
T.J. Maxx specializes in name-brand apparel and home furnishings, selling much of the same merchandise as department stores do, only at lower prices.
If consumers are no longer buying books at great numbers at brick-and-mortar retail locations such as malls, they are buying what T.J. Maxx has to offer.
On Thursday, T.J. Maxx’s corporate parent, TJX Cos. of Framingham, reported that a key sales metric was up an impressive 7 percent for the month of July.
CambridgeSide Galleria said its new lease with T.J. Maxx brings the mall’s occupancy rate to 98 percent.Chris Reidy can be reached at email@example.com.
