Biogen Idec teams with Teach for America to improve education for low-income students
The Biogen Idec Foundation and Teach For America are working together in support of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math education, or STEM.
As part of the collaboration, a $100,000 grant from Weston-based biotech Biogen Idec Inc. will be split evenly to benefit Teach For America’s Massachusetts and eastern North Carolina regions. The nonprofit organization focuses on increasing educational opportunities for low-income children.
Througout the upcoming school year, Biogen Idec scientists will hold educational seminars for Teach for America instructors, and students in the program will be able to use the company’s Community Lab in Cambridge.
Friday, 20 first-year science teachers affiliated with Teach for America are expected to visit the lab, where they will meet with high school students participating in a Biogen Idec-sponsored summer program.
