A Nordstrom Rack to open in the Back Bay next spring
Nordstom Inc., a Seattle-based chain of luxury department stores, said Thursday that it plans to open a two-level Nordstrom Rack store in Boston’s Back Bay neighborhood next spring.
Nordstrom Rack is the company’s discount division.
With about 38,000 square feet of space, the new store will be located at the Newbry, a shopping complex with entrances on both Newbury and Boylston streets, and occupy space previously tenanted by Filene’s Basement, Nordstrom said; other Newbry tenants include Boston Sports Club, H&M, and Victoria’s Secret.
Nordstrom Rack stores feature merchandise from traditional Nordstrom stores at 50 to 60 percent off original prices, said the company, which operates 117 full-line Nordstrom stores and 110 Nordstrom Rack stores. In Massachusetts, the company currently operates four full-line Nordstrom stores and three Nordstrom Rack stores.
The Newbry is owned by TIAA-CREF and managed by CBRE/New England Partners LP.
A Globe story in May reported that Nordstrom was planning to take over space vacated by Filene’s Basement after Filene’s Basement filed for bankruptcy protection, and the entire chain was liquidated.
