Shopping will escalate into both an art form and a mad scramble over the next few days. Black Friday, of course, is regarded by many as the official start of the holiday shopping season. There are a number of ways to follow the shopping action, starting on Thanksgiving at 8 p.m. and cranking up on Black Friday.

Boston.com will feature a live blog that includes posts and photos from Boston Globe staffers and free-lancers at stores and malls in the Boston region.
