JetBlue plans Boston-Philadelphia flights starting in the spring
JetBlue Airways announced Thursday the launch of nonstop service between Boston’s Logan International Airport and Philadelphia International Airport.
Five daily flights will begin on May 23, said JetBlue, adding that Philadelphia will be its 47th nonstop destination out of Boston.
In February, a Globe story noted that round-trip airfare between Boston and Philadelphia was doubling after Southwest Airlines discontinued its service between Boston and Philadelphia. Southwest Airlines’ decision left US Airways as the only carrier flying nonstop between the two cities.

Meanwhile, JetBlue said it has added an average of five new destinations per year from Boston since JetBlue service launched in 2004; JetBlue added that it now serves more cities than any other airline in Logan’s entire history as an airport. In the past year alone, JetBlue said it has added nonstop service from Boston to Dallas; Grand Cayman; St. Thomas in the US Virgin Islands; and Nantucket, with plans to serve Charleston, S.C. in early 2013.
