Iconic Hub hotel is now officially the Loews Boston Back Bay Hotel
A ceremony scheduled for later this morning will celebrate this changing of the guard with a champagne toast and petite fours. Plans call for Paul Whetsell, president and chief executive of Loews Hotel & Resorts, and the hotel’s general manager, John Maibach, to be on hand to greet guests.
Located at the corner of Berkeley and Stuart streets, the hotel is one of Boston’s historic buildings. Built in the 1920s as the Boston Police Department Headquarters and occupied as such until the late 1990s, the property was extensively redeveloped in 2004.
For a time, the property operated under the name of Jurys Boston Hotel before changing its name to the Back Bay Hotel in 2009. Loews bought the property from Doyle Collection, a Dublin-based operator of luxury hotels.
In a salute to the hotel’s history as a former jailhouse, attendees at today’s festivities can get complimentary “mug shots,” along with their champagne and petite fours, Loews officials said.Chris Reidy can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org.
