Dunkin’ Donuts unveils butter pecan-flavored joe for the discerning iced-coffee drinker

Not content with such garden-variety flavors as hazelnut and vanilla, Dunkin’ Donuts is looking to push the envelope on the iced coffee flavor experience.

The Canton-based retailer of coffee and baked-goods said in a press release that it is teaming up with sister chain Baskin-Robbins to marry caffeinated beverages with ice cream essences.

As a result of the new partnership between the two chains, customers can now order Dunkin’ Donuts’ Mint Chocolate Chip Iced Coffee and Dunkin’ Donuts’ Old Fashioned Butter Pecan Iced Coffee at participating Dunkin’ restaurants through the summer, the company said.

Dunkin’ and Baskin-Robbins are both owned by Dunkin’ Brands Group Inc. At Dunkin’ Brands, Stan Frankenthaler wears two hats (or at least he has two titles). He’s the company’s executive chef; he’s also the vice president of product innovation. (Under his watch, Dunkin’ recently published a recipe for Dark Chocolate Mocha Stuffed French Toast.)

In a statement focused on iced coffee, Frankenthaler said: ‘‘We are committed to offering our guests familiar flavors with an appealing twist, and we’re particularly excited to bring together Dunkin’ Donuts and Baskin-Robbins for the first time to create two new refreshing iced coffee flavors. When you combine the flavor of Baskin-Robbins’ popular ice creams like Mint Chocolate Chip or Old Fashioned Butter Pecan with delicious Dunkin’ Donuts iced coffee, it’s a sure way to please any ice cream or coffee lover.’’
