Japan Airlines to resume Boston-Tokyo flights on 787
Japan Airlines plans to resume its daily Boston-Tokyo on the Boeing 787 on June 1, the carrier announced Tuesday, following aviation authorities’ approval last week of Boeing’s new lithium ion battery system. Japan Airlines will also restart 787 service from Tokyo to San Diego, Singapore, and Beijing June 1, followed by flights to Delhi July 12, Moscow and San Francisco Sept. 1, and Sydney and Bangkok in December.
The airline will also launch new service to Helsinki, originally scheduled to begin in February, on July 1.
The 787, Boeing’s newest and most technologically advanced jet, was ordered out of service in January following two incidents in which the aircraft’s lithium ion batteries overheated, including a fire in an empty Japan Airlines 787 on the ground in Boston.
Japan Airlines is currently flying the Boston-Tokyo route four times a week on a larger Boeing 777. The airline also announced Tuesday that it would be adding personal TVs on all its international aircraft.
