Houghton Mifflin Harcourt debuts ‘all-in-one re-entry curriculum’ for correctional facilities
Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, a Boston company known for textbooks and education content, said it that has unveiled a “Reentry Prerelease Program” designed specifically for correctional facility education centers.
Citing industry statistics about high recidivism rates, the company noted in its press release that its reentry program “provides resources that cover not only academics but an array of social skills, from career guidance to problem solving to relationship management.”
In the past, educators at correctional facilities have often had to fashion their programs bit by bit, taking pieces of content from a variety of sources to forge a coherent whole, said Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, which is also known as HMH. A major selling point of its Reentry Prerelease Program is that it is the only “all-in-one” solution of its kind on the market, HMH said.
“HMH is committed to providing opportunities for learners at all life stages, and whenever we develop content, we always look through the lens of the customer and end user,” Jeff Angle, HMH’s vice president of marketing, said in a statement. “The Reentry Prerelease Program is no different; it provides educators with diverse instructional materials that support teaching to various learning levels, and it gives offenders the chance to learn the skills to be productive citizens. As with all of our Adult Education programs, we are providing opportunity.”
