Zipcar has scheduled a Monday Zipcar parade of sorts to mark its move from Cambridge to Boston.
“We’re taking car sharing to a whole new place—the Innovation District,” the firm said in a media advisory that references the Boston neighborhood where Zipcar will now have its main office. “A moving parade of Zipcars and Zipvans will be caravanning (police escort and all) through the city of Boston to kick off the official move of Zipcar’s global HQ from Cambridge, Ma., to Boston’s Innovation District.”
The parade is scheduled to arrive at Zipcar’s new HQ just after noon Monday, the advisory said.
Earlier this year, Avis Budget Group, the third-largest car rental company, agreed to buy Zipcar for $500 million.
While Zipcar controls a large-share of the North American hourly car rental market --- three-quarters of that market by one estimate earlier this year --- it is facing increasing competition.Chris Reidy can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org.
