The ‘Big Puppi’ wins Kayem hot dog contest to become newest Fenway Frank

For a hot dog uber chef, it doesn’t get much better than this --- winning the first-ever Kayem Foods Fenway Frank contest and having your culinary creation showcased at the ballpark.

Such is the case with Peter Leibowitz of Hudson and his “Big Puppi” hot dog. As part of Kayem’s Create The Next Fenway Frank Contest, Leibowitz was announced as the winner by Red Sox player Shane Victorino. (For the record, Tuesday happens to be National Hot Dog. Hence, the timing of the announcement.)

A media advisory from Chelsea-based Kayem suggests that the Big Puppi manages to alchemize several food groups into a single gustatory unit. Ingredients include “a Kayem All Beef Fenway Frank topped with spicy ketchup, yellow mustard, sauteed onions, cheese, and potato sticks.”

Besides receiving a $1,000 cash gift card, Leibowitz will have his Big Puppi sold at Fenway Park for the remainder of the season, Kayem said.

‘‘Peter put a creative spin on the classic Fenway Frank, while maintaining the essence of enjoying a great tasting hot dog at the ball game,’’ Bob Kufferman, Kayem senior brand manager, said in a statement. ‘‘During the contest, we received several hundred unique Fenway Frank recipes and we’d like to applaud all of our contestants for their passion and creativity. We’re excited to present Peter’s grand slam creation at Fenway Park tonight for the Red Sox game versus the Tampa Bay Rays.’’

Let’s hope the Big Puppi isn’t as salty as the language of Big Papi, who’s been known to use a bad word now and then.
