Atlas ATM settles allegations about fee disclosures, AG Martha Coakely says

A company that provides ATMs to many local convenience stores, restaurants, and other retailers has agreed to pay $50,000 to settle allegations that it failed to post fee disclosure notices on some of its machines, Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley announced Tuesday.

The company is Atlas ATM Corp, which also agreed to change its disclosure practices. State regulations require ATM provides to alert consumers about charges for ATM transactions, Coakley’s office said in a press release.

“Companies should be held accountable for providing appropriate fee disclosures to consumers,” Coakley said in a statement. “Consumers will now be notified by this ATM provider before they use their debit and credit cards.”

Coakley said she became aware of Atlas’s actions as a result of a joint investigation with the state’s Division of Banks. Coakley’s office and the division have been conducting an industry-wide investigation into non-bank ATM disclosure practices. In May, Coakley and the division settled similar allegations with Merrimak ATM Group.
