News magazine US News & World Report just released its 2014 Best Cars for the Money winners, a list that recognizes cars, SUVs, and trucks in a variety of different categories.
A total of 225 cars were considered and compared against the vehicles’ quality and value until each was assigned a competive scored. US News & World Report Managing Editor Jamie Page Deaton says winning cars were decided based on a combination of positive reviews from professional car critics, cost, and long-term ownership in their class.
“It’s not enough for a car to get great reviews, have a low price, or have low ownership costs,” says Deaton. “To win, it needs to have all three.”
Foreign automakers dominated the list, taking 13 prizes in 21 different categories. Meanwhile, Ford had a strong performance among US automakers taking four categories – subcompact, hatchback, hybrid, and 2-row midsize SUV.
