The 911 Targa is a truly indecisive sports car. They're hard to find from any model year, because most buyers either choose a Cabriolet and order the removable hardtop, or purchase a Carrera with the standard sunroof. When it does make a public appearance, the Targa is arguably more mystical than the GT3. Well, almost.
This new 911 is still under the 997 codename (which means it's not much different than last year's) but does offer a new dual-clutch 7-speed gearbox that promises ultra-fast shifts versus the old Tiptronic automatic, revised LED taillamps, and more power thanks to direct-injection (345 and 385 horsepower in the standard and S trims, respectively).
Porsche could have used this time to replace the power sunshade with electrochromic glass like that on the limited-edition Ferrari Superamerica. Such technology, which can be had for cheap on auto-dim rearview mirrors, adjusts the window tint at the touch of a button.
