8 fuel-saving car technologies
In a hybrid, the internal combustion engine usually shuts down when the car is stopped. Now, this "stop/start" feature is appearing on regular cars. Ford will introduce the system on some 2012 models and anticipates fuel savings of up to 10 percent. The systems have some mechanical requirements such as an electric water pump, direct fuel injection, and beefed-up starter motors, batteries, and flywheel gears. Even Porsche and Ferrari have it.
