As the most powerful production Jaguar ever, the XKR-S qualifies as the best midday rush a person can have under $200,000. Lunch breaks couldn’t have been sweeter when we tested this all-black, carbon-trimmed coupe.

With each throttle jab, the XKR-S is a few steps away from clawing your face. Even with the stiffened suspension and ultra-wide rubber, the back always wants to step out. On a public road, it’s plain crazy to have this much twist at your disposal. The backfiring, coarse exhaust sounds like a contained explosive, and the quick steering translates every twitch to the road.

But the XKR-S is a Jaguar, and that means it’s polished and bow-tie formal when required. So the heavily-bolstered seats adjust every which way, the ride never punishes, and the roof is all leather. We’ve never tested an Aston Martin, and after driving this rare Jaguar, we don’t care if we ever do.
