Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid
Unlike the more advanced two-mode system found on the Tahoe Hybrid, the Malibu Hybrid uses a belt alternator system, like that in the Saturn Vue Green Line, which is a cheaper and less effective solution. As such, its mileage gains - up two in the city - aren't notable. Belt alternator systems replace the starter motor on traditional vehicles with a larger electric motor, but without the powertrain complexity of so-called "full hybrids" that are able to split electric and gasoline power more efficiently.
If having the hybrid badge makes the deal for you, go for it. Otherwise the standard four-cylinder Malibu with its 22/32 rating is plenty acceptable.
