Mercedes-Benz G55 AMG
Least efficient SUV
EPA City/Highway: 11/13
Besides Mikhail Gorbachev, the 29-year-old Geländewagen is one of the last surviving relics of the Cold War, a testament to cold, hard German steel and a belligerent attitude toward modernity.
Never mind that its box proportions make horse trailers look sporty or that the G55 AMG's 493 horsepower and 5,635 pound curb weight remain the most terrifying combination on the road today. Forget it costs well over $100 to fill the 25.4 gallon tank with precious premium. Because the G55 owner - an extrovert awash with incredulous stares from passersby and raised eyebrows from Cayenne Turbo drivers - is so oddly displaced from the world that he can ignore everything, including $5 gas.
