Toyota Venza
The Vezna is a totally underappreciated (and useful) vehicle. It has precise handling, thanks to a wide stance, low center of gravity, and 10-inch wheels. The Venza was a 2012 Insurance Institute for Highway Safety pick in the midsize SUV category.

Volvo S60
Vovlo’s SUVs are no-brainers for this category, but we’ve come to love this refreshed sedan. It’s the only European brand vehicle to score Good on the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety’s small overlap frontal crash test. The S60 has all-wheel-drive.
BMW 3-Series
BMW’s xDrive returns to the sedans. This all-wheel-drive system aims to provide maximum traction on snow, ice, and other slippery surfaces. The 3-Series also comes with a lane change warning system that monitors conditions and warns drivers if other vehicles come too close.
Audi A4 sedan
Audi has been an AWD leader for years. This sedan also comes with six airbags, stability, control, “intelligent sensors” that unlock doors, turn on interior and hazard lights, and cut off fuel to the engine after an accident, according to Audi.
Buick Enclave SUV
Buick is doing some nice work across the board and that includes this SUV. The Enclave has seven airbags, including a new front center air bag for increased safety. It has a StabiliTrack traction control and Side Blind Zone Alert with Cross Traffic Alert.
Chrysler 300 sedan
A big car with big capabilities. The 300 comes with the ParkSense Rear Park Assist System to help detect nearby objects and Blind Spot Monitoring to increase safety on the road. Its all-wheel-drive system detects road conditions to improve handling.
Mercedes-Benz E-Class
Griffith once tried to make an E-Class spin on an icy parking lot. He failed. This car’s all-wheel-drive is ready for any season or road condition, while its Electronic Stability Program helps keep it moving in the intended direction. The 4-wheel Electronic Traction System further prevents slipping.
Dodge Charger
There are 65 standard and available safety features on the Charger, according to Dodge. Those include rain brake support, Hill Start Assist, full or partial Electronic Stability Control, and crush zones. All-wheel-drive is available on the Charger.
Toyota Sienna
This list’s only minivan, the Sienna has all-wheel-drive and available Blind Spot Monitor. Its front and rear parking assist sonar help drivers fit into small spots.
Mazda CX-5
This new kid on the block wants to join the fun. The CX-5’s advanced safety features include a Dynamic Stability Control system that keep the vehicle on its intended path when over- or understeering is detected, Standard Traction Control, and Tire-Pressure Monitoring System. It was named a 2012 top safety pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
Cadillac ATS sedan
One of the hottest new cars wants to be one for all seasons. The ATS feature’s Cadillac’s brake-coating process that makes them ideal on any road condition. Its lightweight, strong chassis also contribute to better handling and safety, according to Cadillac. All-wheel-drive is available.
Bentley Continental Flying Spur
What do you mean you’re spending $185,000 on a fair-weather car? It’s got all-wheel-drive. Take it out to enjoy the weather. The “intelligent” Park Distance Control helps drivers squeeze into tight spots.
Ford Explorer
The Explorer has an available Terrain Management System that allows drivers to easily shift into settings for normal road conditions, mud and ruts, sand, or grass, gravel and snow. That works with the vehicles “intelligent” four-wheel-drive improves control on hills.
Jeep Grand Cherokee
The Jeep Grand Cherokee has been the New England Motor Press Winter Car of the Year two straight times. There are more than 45 safety and security features, including an Electronic Stability Control system, seat-mounted airbags, and four-wheel Antilock Brake System.
