Answer: Turn into the skid and increase speed
If you’re diving down the highway and decide late to take a ramp, you have so much grip on the front wheels and so little load on the rear that they slide. That’s when you steer into the skid.
“Look down the road in the direction you would rather have the car go and point the wheels there,” Cox said. “You can add a little bit of acceleration. That seems crazy. You’re already going sideways and out of control. Why go faster? Think about how it was caused.
“Once you’ve done everything you can with the steering wheel, you need to think about that weight transfer. That’s the quickest way to solve the problem.”
