Developer Donald Chiofaro has filed his plans for two towers where the Harbor Garage now stands.

The towers would be connected by a terra-cotta colored rectangle that itself would be taller than the two buildings. (Click here to see an artist's rendering).

What do you think of the design? Would it be a welcome addition to Boston's skyline, or an eyesore?

Any new development in the people's republic will always have a nay sayer group. how about new tax receipts and jobs coming in for once?  looks great to me.

Its nothing but another vanity project for a developer trying to leave his "mark" on the city. In the end, the silly "skyframe" will get left out because it costs too much and doesn't generate rental income. We will be left with another two bland buildings on the waterfront as usual. Just like the horrendous Harbor Towers next door.

I wish these ego challenged developers would go play in someone else's sand box. Dubai maybe?

He is looking to build in Boston. Not Cambridge.

Absolutely hideous.  It says a lot about a design when keeping the current Harbor Towers is a better aesthetic alternative.  I guess we should not be surprised considering this is guy who gave us International Place.

I'm all for the creation of new buildings in the Beautiful city of Boston, but this proposed 2-unit construction is, to put it bluntly, ugly—and quite frankly not worthy of Boston.

Boston needs a building that is world-class . . . one that will invite citizens and visitors to look, marvel, question, think, and be renewed—and this proposed building is not the one to do that.

I hope that it is rebuffed, negated, dissed, turned aside, and cancelled.

I'm all for an iconic building here, but not this one. Boston deserves something much more elegant than this monstrosity.  I know I won't have to be concerned because this will never get built.  Menino and Chiafaro do not hit it off to begin with and the BRA will kill it.

Mr. Chiofaro has vision.  I think that his proposed building looks fine.

Poor design and absolutely no consideration of the city edge or the harbor. The waterfront should be scaled to Rowes Wharf (a success) and not to Harbor Towers (a failure). I love how the first photo of the piece shows Donnie in front of his other eye-sore: the parking garage. I'd rather see that stay than Donnie's monument to his greatness.

Add open green balconies every 8 floors within the void connecting the two buildings and call it a day.

I applaud Don Chiafaro for his imagination and to pull Boston out of the parochial grips of Menino and the BRA with something daring and exciting.  Boston's skyline is timid to say the least.  Boston needs to grow and not be stifled by little minds.  That being said, I'm not crazy about the building being proposed.  I have nothing against the height, height is good, but I think we can come up with a more beautiful design, one that is more elegant and without the gimmick of a connecting "skybridge".

It's not the prettiest desgin in all honesty, but quite frankly, we need to get Boston into the 21st Century. Aw heck, I'm all for skybridge! You go Don!

It may not look the best but you know what, forget the NIMBYs, forget the mayor. We need jobs in Boston right now which are more important than someone's views. The people of the Harbor Tower are the ones to talk. Criticizing density and such when they themselves live in a 40 story towers. Why not knock those towers down since they are blocking the view of the sea from the Greenway. Chiofaro definitely has the guts to build this and isn't like all those other developers who had to groveled to the mayor's feet as well as to zoning laws that were made over a century ago. Time has changed, get with the times people.

I think that the design is kind of interesting and will look similar to the Federal Reserve Tower by South Station. There is an article on boston.com that is dated a while back (search for it on the main page) that includes a video interview with Chiofaro. In the video he has a 3-D model of the complex and it actually looks pretty cool and will definitely add something to the skyline. I think the major problem with the proposal is that the artist's rendering is more of a painting rather than a photograph (see the artist renderings for Raymond Properties' Congress Street/Government Center Garage Tower, which looks like a photograph and makes the buildings look much better). The project would be great for the city and I really hope something monumental is built on the site.

We just spent 10 billion to reconnect the city to the harbor and people want to wall it off again with a high rise?  The ugly garage should be redeveloped but it should be to existing scale.

There is another parking garage at Liberty square where Menino was proposing a signature high rise that would be the tallest building in Boston.  That is the location to use.

Umm I'm sorry but buildings and skyscrapers are part of the urban fabric. A elevated highway is not. If what you say is true, then all buildings, including the Harbor Tower and Rowes Wharf have walled off the harbor. How about we demolish those too then? Would that make you happier? After all, Boston needs giant open green space that belongs in and makes it look like the suburbs. How else can surbabanites migrate back into the city?

too many people have to have a say, ridiculous

some people would protest that a dump had historical significance
