The Tropicana packaging failure was a big mess for the juice co.  Pepsi is having difficulty with their new logo and the G for Gatorade were all the "brainchild" of a company called the Arnell Group.  They are behind most of the new "simplified", store brand look.  Tropicana's sales were way off because nobody, me included, could tell what the heck the product was.  Propel water, another Arnell Group fiasco, has the same problem.  (a store clerk told me the new "thinner green" bottles keep falling over on the shelves.....it's that something???....)  I don't know what these people were thinking, and how on earth a company's marketing executive could ever ok these ridiculous changes.  It's gotten to where I can tell an Arnell ad campaign now.  I look it up online to verify.  We are talking about millions and millions of dollars for these failed changes too.

Yes! Little, Brown - formerly a Boston company - did away with its "bird on a stick" logo showing the eagle statue behind the state house in favor of a bland googly-eyes LB.

Stop & Shop changed their logo some time last year - you can still catch the old logo on a lot of their delivery trailers though.

Celestial Seasonings Teas has redesigned its brand and its lovely, unusual boxes now looks like absolutely everything else.  Just like Snapple and Tropicana.  If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

First Citizens' Federal Credit Union with offices on Cape Cod and the South Coast recently announced a new identity program which includes a change of color from vintage maroun to sea blue, the introduction of a stylish new logo, and "Think First" as a new slogan. The whole effect is really contemporary, and epitomizes what a rebranding campaign done well can do to widen the appeal of a brand, company or organization.

Being in retail I see this constantly. You will see much more of this during a time of economic hardship. Often is works, but it can sometimes be devastating for a brand that changes so drastically that the product becomes unrecognizable to the loyal customer.

SoBe water has recently changed their logo in an effort to compete with the ever growing Vitamin Water powerhouse. Target has recently changed many of their Target-branded merchandise logos in an effort to revitalize their brands and grab the attention of customers looking for something new and hopefully less expensive.

I don't think we will see this trend slow down anytime soon. Retail competition is fierce right now and companies have to fight for every dollar they can.

Check out starlinegroup.com. Impressive re-design for a local specialty underwriting company.

Here's one that has only been in need for a change for say 30 years: GE!  Current logo is very antiquated!!!
