So you still have a Walkman, or still listed to music on tapes? What do you miss about the days of mix tapes?

Reminisce about the Walkman here.

I've had several versions of the Walkman. The last was a CD/AM/FM player, that still works today. That was my favorite one. I did finally join the Ipod generation, as it is easier to carry around all my music on one devise. I have had some problems with the Ipods that I have had over the past couple of years, but so far the last one, is still working pretty good. There are still many people who don't have Ipod or MP3 players.

I bought the model on the left, apparently Sony's second iteration of its Walkman line, in Daly City, California in summer 1981.  I don't remember the store's name but their radio slogan was their location: "Top of the hill, Daly City".  The model played an audio cassette tape with auto reverse.  You put 2 "AA" size batteries into the back door of the unit for its power.  For longer playing time you plugged a belt clip battery pack into the unit's side.  The pack took 2 "C" size batteries which lasted much longer than the internal "AA"s.  It came with headphones!  I had never heard such excellent quality sound before.  And in such a SMALL size player!

I remember in 1980 watching on the Phil Donahue Show and he had a guest showing the new fads and one of the them was the walkman. The guest said the walkman would be a new fashion accessory and all kids would have them at some point which turned out to be true.
