Has the down economy - and your personal financial situation - had an effect on your plans for a summer vacation this year?

Are you paring down plans for what you were going to do, or are you cutting back elsewhere so that you can follow through with your getaway?

Basically the economy has been trash for awhile now, so this year's vacation was BASED on last year's down economy.  But yeah, of course it had an affect.  Not many industries are flourishing right now.

We went on a very long and nice honeymoon to Spain this spring..which was a very gracious gift.

Now, we are saving for a home, so no more long vacations abroad for us until we know we can pull a mortgage. In the mean-time, there are many shorter trips that are closer to home that one can take advantage of.

We are thus doing mini-vacations for a while. Flights are very cheap now and many of our friends are scattered around the states and can provide a place to stay. For example, we booked very cheap tickets to Chicago (one of the most beautiful cities in the U.S. !) for labor day weekend and will be staying with a friend there. Saving on the hotel will allow us to have a couple of nice dinners.

Another idea we had was to drive up to Canada for our next long-weekend getaway. In that case, we save on the flight but would need a hotel. There are great deals out there!

I really had to cut back on my vacation this year. So this year I will be just opening up all the windows in the house for a week. That will be my vacation this summer.

Instead of a nice trip to an island, mexico, dominican, jamaica or europe
we instead decided on a little road trip to pennsylvania with our 5 year old daughter to visit hershey park, sesame place, etc
so instead of 3 to 5k we'll be spending about $1500

its definitely taking a toll
