What is more important - more job security or more pay? In last 5 years I was laid of twice in jobs that I thought were safe from unemployment risk. But the economy has been rough and companies laid off a bunch of people as the first thing to cut costs. In my opinion, job security is more important than pay, as long the pay is not outrageously low.

i'm collecting now.  i'd be happy to have a job, any job as long as I got a paycheck.

i've got my resume posted all over the place and have been applying for everything.  no calls to speak of.  if i get calls, their either for agencies with temp  work, or for permanent positions i don't get offers from, only a "standard response" that they've decided to go with someone else, despite the fact i would be highly qualified for the position i'm interviewing for.

It is scary, but in todays economy there aren't many jobs that are "recession proof" and some industries will be/are being harder hit than others (I'm not sure what industry you are in Laryan?). I think a balance of fair pay and security is best - the two are inextricably linked - secure employment = regular pay. Always remember though, even the best paid job in the world is no gaurantee of happiness - if a $150k salary means that you have no life and are tied to the desk morning noon and night, then it's not worth it. Remember, no one on their death bed has ever said "gee, I really should have spent more time in the office"!
