Matsuzaka left with arm fatigue?
Quick...who's the Sox #1 and #3 starters the next time through the rotation? Wanna bet? Buchholz for Beckett and Masterson or Bowden for Matsuzaka?

What odds are you giving, or is it organized crime house rules?

Perfecta wins, no fleas and limited entries...I have Buchholz for Beckett and Bowden for Matsuzaka.
Tie-breaker is Lester's replacement if he crashes and burns. I'm thinking Tazawa.

More like neck fatique watching all those balls sail over his head and A's rounding the bases.

The term underachievers comes to mind. One quality start to date will not get the job done.

Am I only one who hates the WBC??  The Sox are reaping the "benefits" of another Japanese WBC run.  I think Dice goes on the DL today-he says he was fine, but his 86 mile an hour fastball says he wasn't.

I hope Masterson gets moved to the rotation, he is clearly much more comfortable and confident there.

Wasted money on nothing more than a fifth starter

So, if we end up needing a replacement for let's say, 3 or 4 starts, do we slide Masterson down to the starting rotation and try one of the kids in the pen, or do we give Bucky a chance to redeam himself as a starter, and leave Masterson where he is, given how effective he's been for us from the pen?

I like Masterson as a temp. 5, but I'm not sure who would then move into his spot in the ben.  Bard isn't quite ready, I don't think.  No reason to mess up his head if the guy comes up and gets mashed - he's got too much potential to rush him.  Maybe later this year.

I guess that means Bucky.

I did not read the box scores carefully, but did Dice K pitch all of the 1st 8 games, NO so don't blame hime for this great start.

How come the rest of the players in the WBC are OK... just Dice-K is hurting?  Because Dice-K starts slow, is only a decent but NOT a great pitcher, and was always in trouble last year.  Just lucky LY opponents didn't get key hit.  This year he is back to his norm.  Hope the "Injuries" give Masterson and Buchholtz and maybe even Bowden a chance to shine.

Well, Clay made his case big-time in ST.  The club probably wanted to give him some easy build time a bit longer with the pawsox.  But, with Dice k-o'd by the wbc, Beckett lost to the whims of the modern candy-ass league, I say lets bring the kid up and let him do his thing.  He is ready.  And, maybe I am wrong here, but judging from his tenacity and attitude in ST, he might actually be a little jolt of confidence and the chip-on-the-shoulder the clubhouse needs right now.

J-Bay,
In case you missed it, last year Dice-K posted a 18-3 record with an ERA under three...show me one other third starter near those numbers.  AND he had arm fatigue AFTER pitching some very good games.  Yeah it's April but now is the time for us to warm up and I am sure some rest and he'll be fine.

Oh wait...show me a #2 starter with those numbers?

Not terribly concerned, we're talking about having played 8 of 162 so not time to press the panic button.  That being said, what is this teams identity going to be, particularly from an offensive standpoint?  I think the Sox should shuffle the deck:

Pedroia - machine, put him in the 1 hole and let him do his thing
Youkilis - same as above plus power
Ortiz - on the downside a bit and no longer has Manny prtecting him
Bay - capable although not Manny (who else is?)
Drew - MASH unit required
Lowell - steady
Varitek - liability somewhat but will occasionally have a streak
SS - anything here is a bonus at this point
Ellsbury - not making it happen at top of lineup

Hopefully the pitching sorts itself out but other than one good start by Beckett and an OK one by Wakefield, starters have been poor.  Would ANYONE have through Lester would be 0-2???

Maybe he's your #1 starter. Scary possibility the way it looks right now.

Dice-K fatigued? Jeesh...

I'm a bit "fatigued" at listening to the bulls**t, apologies and excuses for this mediocre team. On his BEST day this guy can't go more than five innings and he usually walks everyone but the beer vendors.

His arm is probably tired from hauling all that money around or talking to his agent on the phone.

What a cruel joke Epstein and Moneyball, Inc have foisted upon their giddy Pink Hat Legions in "Red Sox Nation". Those of us who have been around a while knew this season would get here eventually.

Perhaps it's a good thing - maybe a couple of years in the cellar will inject a dose of reality into the bored and disappointed fan base and rid us of the loud mouth nitwits who jumped on Guitar Boy's bandwagon in 2004.

It's high time for some new ideas and new leadership in the front office.

I KNOW HIS NUMBERS, BUT HIS PITCHING HAS NOT BEEN A TRUE INDICATION OF HIS EFFECTIVENESS. NUMBERS DON'T TELL THE WHOLE STORY. IT WAS UNBELEIVEABLE THE TROUBLE HE GOT IN AND OUT OF. I DON'T THINK HE WILL EVER BE WHAT THEY HOPED HE WOULD. I HOPE I'M WRONG BUT SO FAR I THINK HE HAS BEEN A DISAPPOINTMENT.
