    "Epic" rock songs

    Or, really long ones.

A caveat or 2.  Gotta have lyrics, long a55 instrumentals don't count.
I'm thinking 15 minutes (or appox an album side) minimum.
Gotta be an original song (for eg., ELP's "Pictures" doesn't count)
Genre is irrelevant (I know I said rock, but nevermind.)

    To start:

Close to the Edge - Yes
    Gates of Dilerium - Yes
Thick as a Brick - Jethro Tull
    Tarkus - ELP
    Echoes - Pink Floyd
Shine on You Crazy Diamond - Pink Floyd
A Change of Seasons - Dream Theater
Billy the Mountain - Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention
    In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida - Iron Butterfly
    Supper's Ready - Genesis

    Have fun

'Pirates' from ELP Works Vol.1 comes in at 13:19...a little under the 15 minute timetable set by our esteemed OP.

'Echoes' Pink Floyd , again, from the LP Meddle...23:31!!!

'Atom Heart Mother'...yes, Pink Floyd again. These guys wrote the book on extended songs. From the LP of the same title...23:44, they really outdid themselves on this one, but it's not a favorite.

No.  I'm the biggest DP head in the world, I left those out deliberatly.

Not a "song".  But I appreciate the effort :-)

I just did War Requiem.  Latin Mass and Wifred Owens poems intertwined.  Not a "song", either.  I'm covered :-)

Yes , I know you are a big fan of DP.  I think you are among many here who recognize their brilliance.

Any chance we can all "occupy" Cleveland and get them the honor in the HOF they deserve?

Actually I think the ironic thing is that they really are treating it as a hall of 'fame' instead of what it should be, a hall of 'achievement'.

I'm no longer sure that it's such an honor.

Change the name to the "Rock N' Roll Museum of America", give everyone their display, build a well-designed concert hall for periodic shows (and maybe an accompanying school) and quit all the pretentious bu!!$^*# already....

I have admitted it before , I like ABBA.

    But really, it's not rock'n'roll.

I was joking about the "occupy" business , I do not give a flying 'you know what' if bands I like are in the R&R hall of fame.

But , if you are going to have one, why have bands that are not rock'n'roll in ahead of real rock bands?

Maybe its because Ritchie Blackmore is a real som btch, and Rush are a bunch of Canadian Jews :-)

More likely for Rush is that the great musica intelligencia known as Rolling Stone Magazine missed the boat entirely, and now look stupid.
