June 12, 1962  (one day late, but who's counting after 50 years?)

No one, least of all the band mates themselves, could or would have ever dreamed they'd last 50 years; the rest, as they say, is history (and "gravy").

Heck, they've outlasted most marriages.  Gotta love it.

"Taking part in an open discussion, Keith Richards was asked if he anticipated The Rolling Stones lasting so long. "Never, back then groups used to last about two or three years. You hoped to have a good time and that was that."

Continuing, Keith Richards said: "It's a generation thing, that post-war thing, also technology, when we started we were making 45s and then when you could make albums, that gave us the chance to do more. I never expected to get here, so it's all gravy."
