Not sure what the 60s obscure-but-familiar psychedelic nuggets relationship is to Target...

...but I too often wonder what popular music will end up in a tv commercial.

Personally, I'm holding out for some 80s thrash, like Anthrax or Slayer...maybe an advert for pickup trucks or something....

I always thought "Be Stiff" a song by Devo would be a natural for Viagra ads.

Other obvious ones we'd like to see:

Truckin' - Grateful Dead for Chevy trucks, (or Ford , Toyota, or Dodge)

Sunday, Bloody Sunday - U2 for NFL football.

Last Train to Clarksville- the Monkees for Amtrak

I'm Only Sleeping- the Beatles for Sominex

Everybody's Talkin' - Harry Nilsson for Nextel

Accidents Will Happen- Elvis Costello for State Farm Insurance

White Room -Cream for Sherwin Williams Paint

Cold As Ice-Foreigner for Coors Lite.

    Re: A brief interlude

Something to do with the chord progression at the opening of the songs?

They all have "phasing" ?  or an echo effect?  (ha ha, okay, I picked up on this)

    Is this a trivia question?

    Beats me.  :D

It's fun to laugh now, but it's only a matter of time before nostalgia rears its head and shows our azz to us.

Then we'll be hearing "Highway Star" or "Radar Love" for Lark scooters,

"Smooth Up In Ya" for K-Y jelly,

"Jesus Built My Hotrod" for Meineke, Midas, et al.

"Monkey Gone To Heaven" for estate planning,

    Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy" for Paxil,

    etc., etc.

    Re: A brief interlude

these artists get more dough out of one commercial than they do for album sales and touring in a whole year (sometimes more)

i didnt have a problem with hearing the flaming lips on the tube. anything to give them what they need to keep making amazing music.

I was also wondering when Obama's PR people were going to smarten up and start using Motorhead's "The Bomber" in the Prez's campaign ads.

    You know....

'He's Obama...he's Obama' (instead of The Bomber, if you say it real fast , it works great!)

Say what you want about marketing, but at the least the Energizer Bunny finally found something useful for Freeze Frame to do.

    Re: A brief interlude

I was watching tv last night and saw the Target ad, and have to say that had it not been for this thread, I never would have paid any attention to it, and hardly even noticed it (I was reading).  It's a cover of "Matchstick Men" and a read dud, IMHO.  Bad ad.

Shortly afterwards, there was a Volkswagen ad on, and admittedly, I am all over VW ads.   Now here's a truly elegant ad:

They guy in the ad is going to propose to his GF, apparently.  The "part 2" of this ad (also for a Golf) shows the guy going to church on his wedding day.  It sounds cute, and maybe it is, but the use of music in the ads is sterling.
