An underappreciated album:Charlie Daniels Band- Fire on the Mountain

While I'm not a big fan of Country music,The Charlie Daniels Band had some crossover songs that were also considered Southern Rock.Songs like Uneasy Rider,Still in Saigon,The Devil went down to Georgia and The Legend of Wooly Swamp among others ended up making appearances in the Rock Charts.
I rarely hear anyone mention Charlie Daniels in conversations about Rock or Southern Rock though,it seems he is put mostly into the Country category.
Fire on the Mountain was recorded and released in 1974.It's still one of my favorite albums and IMO,an album that really belongs in any collection whether it's Country or Rock and Roll.It has the Country/Bluegrass standard "Orange Blossom Special" and the 11:24 minute "No place to go" which, during the instrumental sections, has a sound that's very reminiscent of the Allman Brothers. Both of those songs are also the only live recorded songs on the Album. For me this was an album that straddled the line between Country and Southern Rock just enough to make it an entertaining and enjoyable blend that had a bit of a different sound then the rest of the Southern Rock albums of that time.
If you haven't heard it before,I would suggest that you give it a chance.Although it isn't discussed too often,Fire on the Mountain is a sneakily good album to listen to.My guess is that most of the songs will have your toes tapping.

I liked the CDB a lot. Saw them live once.
My favorite album of theirs is Saddle Tramp. -

Charlie Daniels Band recorded the unofficial anthem of Southern Rock, 'The South's Going To Do It Again.'
Daniel's fiddle playing gave a distinctive sound to the band , which separated them from the other great 70's Southern Rock which was primarily guitar oriented:
Lynyrd Skynyrd
The Allman Brothers
.38 Special
Marshall Tucker Band
Atlanta Rhythm Section
ZZtop -

Growing up in the South, I always heard folks quote that. But since I hated the song, I always said, "Do what again? Lose?" Not a good way to make friends. -

Possibly my favorite album by the CDB. Although Uneasy Rider remains my favorite song of theirs. -
